About Me

I have always been fascinated by people and relationships and knew from a young age I wanted to work to support others. My interest in counselling began when I studied Psychology at Manchester University, graduating in 1998.

After graduating I worked in local and central government housing and homelessness departments; working on programmes to support young people moving into independent living and supporting women and children fleeing domestic violence.

I joined Bristol Mind in 2004 where I started my counselling training and worked on the Mindline, providing support to individuals in distress and experiencing challenges with their mental health.

I continued my counselling training at the University of the West of England (UWE) in 2011, whilst working with a wide range of organisations: Bristol Mind, Bristol Rape Crisis, Cruse Bereavement Care, The Swan Project (alcohol and addiction support) and Brimsham Green Secondary School (supporting young people).

In 2019, I joined Relate Avon where I now work with couples families and individuals alongside my private practice.

I am a Registered BACP member and follow their Ethical Framework and Professional Guidelines.

My Approach

For me, the client-counsellor relationship is at the heart of the counselling process and I base my work on developing a relationship of deep understanding, acceptance and empathy.

Within this supportive, non-judgemental space, my hope is that you are able to explore your thoughts and feelings, reconnect with your inner values and sense of self enabling you to move forward and progress.

My counselling style is relational and person-centred, and I believe that you will find your own solutions at your own pace given the right therapeutic conditions.

My training is ‘integrative’ meaning I draw on different theories and techniques in order to support you through the counselling process and tailor the sessions to meet your individual needs.

LGBTQIA+

I am experienced in working with issues around gender and sexuality, relationship diversity (polyamory, non-monogamy) and provide an LGBTQIA+ affirmative practice, welcoming clients from all backgrounds and holding awareness of oppressive social systems including class, race, ability, gender and sexuality.
